Kathy Kranz

In her current role, Kranz oversees Pinnacol’s corporate strategy & development, financial reporting, business planning, enterprise risk, and actuarial functions. Kranz joined Pinnacol in 2008 and has held various positions on the finance team.

Her accomplishments include doubling Pinnacol’s surplus, decreasing rates for customers, issuing general dividends back to policyholders for eight consecutive years (totaling $385 million), and issuing a $100M surplus note to an external investor. She was also one of the founders of Cake Insure and currently serves as Cake's Treasurer. Most recently, Kathy led Pinnacol’s first-ever acquisition of Attune, a technology platform, and managing general agent (MGA).

Pinnacol has outperformed its peers and competitors so dramatically during Kathy’s tenure as CFO that the company has earned a spot on the Ward’s 50 lists of best-performing property and casualty insurance companies among industry giants for five consecutive years. It has secured an A.M. Best rating of A- (excellent) since 2015 and an S&P rating of BBB+. Kranz was also named a 2018 Business Insurance Woman to Watch and a Colorado Titan 100.

Beyond the balance sheets and boardrooms, Kathy's heart beats for the community. She is proud to have been a board member of the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts (CBCA) since 2013 and held numerous roles for them, including treasurer, chair of the Finance Committee, secretary, chair of the Policy and Governance Committee, a member of the Executive Committee, and a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee. She deeply believes in the importance of a thriving art scene to attract businesses – and the talent they need – to Colorado. In 2022, Kathy joined the Mile High United Way as a board member and serves on their finance committee.

In her free time, Kathy enjoys travel, watching sports (especially rooting for the Michigan Wolverines - Go Blue), and spending time with her son.
