DENVER — April 12, 2022 — Kathy Kranz, Pinnacol Assurance’s chief financial officer, has been named a 2022 Colorado Titan 100. Pinnacol is Colorado’s largest workers’ compensation insurer, serving more than 54,000 businesses in the state and covering nearly 1 million workers' lives. The Titan 100 program recognizes Colorado’s top 100 CEOs and C-level executives. These professionals are the area’s most accomplished business leaders in their respective industries, a recognition determined using criteria that include demonstrating exceptional leadership, vision and passion.
Kranz has been instrumental in helping the company improve and demonstrate its financial stability. She improved Pinnacol’s financial strength after the 2008 Great Recession and positioned the organization to manage the COVID-19 pandemic in innovative ways as an insurance carrier, employer and force for good in Colorado.
“The pandemic thrust many organizations into financial and operational uncertainty; however, Pinnacol’s financial strength under Kathy’s leadership meant that we had the foundation needed to make decisions based on long-term planning instead of short-term reactions,” said John O’Donnell, Pinnacol president and CEO. “Kathy’s work is integral to Pinnacol’s future growth and strategy.”
Kathy joined Pinnacol in 2008 as an analyst, then held roles as controller, associate vice president of finance and interim CFO before being named vice president and chief financial officer in 2014. In 2012, she led senior leadership in developing a five-year plan to restore the company’s profitability and ensure its financial strength going forward. Pinnacol far exceeded its goal, meeting it in two years instead of four. These changes and others under Kathy’s guidance also led to nearly doubling Pinnacol’s surplus, an increase of almost $1 billion, in addition to paying $320 million in dividends to Colorado businesses.
Kranz will be honored at the Titan 100 award ceremony on June 2, 2022,at Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum located in Denver, Colorado.
