Community impact

We’re building a stronger community by giving back.

We believe in paying it forward

For more than 100 years, our job has been all about protecting the health and safety of people on their jobs. And that sense of caring extends to the communities where we live and work. We donate time, money and support through grants, sponsorships, our employee volunteer and giving programs, and the Pinnacol Foundation scholarship program.

In 2023, Pinnacol invested over $1.1 million in the community.

The Pinnacol Foundation

We created our scholarship program to ensure that the children of injured workers have the opportunity to pursue their dreams by continuing their education.
Since the start of the program in 2000, we've awarded more than $7.4 million in scholarships to nearly 800 students across Colorado. Scholarships average $4,700 per student per year and are used on tuition, fees and books at accredited colleges, universities, community colleges and vocational schools.

Grants, sponsorships and memberships

Our community investments program reflects our commitment to protecting the health and safety of the workforce, helping injured workers get back to work, and promoting a robust business climate and a prepared workforce statewide. Our grants, sponsorships and membership investments support nonprofits whose efforts align with these pillars.

Our three pillars
Employee safety and health
A key focus of our business is keeping our customers and their employees safe and healthy, so we’ve aligned our community giving with nonprofits that promote similar objectives. We also award safety grants to Colorado nonprofits proactively addressing workplace safety hazards for their employees.
Rehabilitative health services
Part of our job as a workers’ compensation insurer is supporting injured workers as they heal and recover. An important piece of our community giving is to support organizations that provide rehabilitative care to individuals recovering from physical injuries or living with ongoing disabilities.
Economic vitality and workforce development
Our commitment to helping our customers thrive extends beyond providing workers’ compensation coverage. We promote a strong business climate for Colorado as a member of more than 40 chambers of commerce and industry associations.
We also support nonprofits that are developing Colorado's talent pipeline in industries and regions facing worker shortages, with the greatest consideration given to organizations that support advanced skill development and are designed to create opportunities for Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities as part of our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
General Exclusions
We will not support:
  • Organizations that discriminate on the basis of age, sex, race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation or disability with respect to employment, volunteer participation or the provision of services
  • Individual K-12 public and private schools
  • Religious institutions (except hospitals and hospital foundations)
  • Requests that solicit financial support for individuals, political candidates and political campaigns, or entities that are not nonprofit organizations
Additionally, Pinnacol seldom makes community investments in fundraising luncheons, dinners, galas or sporting events (walks, races, golf tournaments or similarly structured events).
These exclusions may not apply to Pinnacol’s safety grant program.
