DENVER, Aug. 31, 2020 — The Pinnacol Foundation recently awarded $452,820 in scholarships to 95 students across Colorado for the 2020-21 academic year. The foundation provides scholarships each year to students whose parents have been seriously injured or killed in work-related accidents. Students are eligible whether or not Pinnacol was the insurer.
The Pinnacol Foundation scholarship program began 20 years ago with four students. Since 2000, the foundation has awarded nearly $6 million in scholarships to more than 650 students for college and vocational training. The foundation is by far the largest scholarship program in the nation supporting the children of workers across the state who have been killed or seriously injured on the job.
Pinnacol Foundation scholarship recipient KylerDeniston is from Milliken, Colorado, and attends the University of Colorado,Colorado Springs. He recently lost his father to a tragic work-relatedaccident. Partly due to his late father’s emphasis on the importance of learningand achieving good grades, Deniston is a motivated student and is this year’srecipient of the Pinnacol Foundation’s Suzi Stolte HopeScholar of the Year award. For Deniston, “every day poses a differentchallenge. I’ve learned life can be short. I plan on learning some of thesepassions (my father) had in life. I want to make him proud, and carry on thosetraditions and hobbies that made my father such a special person.”
The Pinnacol Foundation scholarship program is made possible through the generous support of Pinnacol Assurance, corporate sponsors and our community of individual donors. This year, donors generously contributed virtually, even in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
